The Digital Library of Classic Protestant Texts now complete

Alexander Street Press is pleased to announce the completion of the largest collection of Protestant writings ever assembled electronically: the Digital Library of Classic Protestant Texts.  This database contains more than 1200 titles, many of which have heretofore been accessible only in rare book rooms at a handful of European institutions. The 274 authors included in the project represent a wide range of Protestant denominational traditions—from Reformed and Lutheran to Anglican, Unitarian, Puritan, Quaker, and Arminian.

"Since the project began in 2001 we have faced a number of challenges, says Peter Cooper, lead editor of the project. “I am extremely proud of the way our editors and indexers have maintained their commitment to quality and have persevered to deliver a resource that has the potential to transform the study of the 16th and 17th centuries.  Not only have we made hundreds of previously hard-to-find documents readily accessible, but we've also thoroughly tagged and indexed nearly half a million pages, allowing for a depth and breadth of scholarship never before possible."

For more information on this database, including free trials for institutions, contact Greg Urquhart at gurquhart@alexanderstreet.com, 800-889-5937 x 116

Alexander Street Press reaches agreement with Boosey and Hawkes to publish their catalog online

Alexander Street Press has reached an agreement with Boosey and Hawkes to publish their sales catalog online, starting with the Hawkes Pocket Scores series.  This will be the first time the popular works will be available in an online database, and marks an important milestone for students and scholars of music.

The Hawkes Pocket Scores collection will be published in Alexander Street’s Classical Scores Library, which will be launched in Spring 2007.  The database will then expand to include other Boosey and Hawkes materials. Upon completion, the database will contain over 400,000 pages representing over 8,000 scores.

“Music students and faculty everywhere recognize Boosey and Hawkes as the standard for high-quality classical scores,” says Liz Dutton, Music Editor at Alexander Street,  “and now, for the first time, they will be able to access these works online through a simple interface.  Plus, for those with access to Classical Music Library, users will be able to listen along to related tracks while reading the scores.  This is really the way music is meant to be studied.”

Highlights of the Hawkes Pocket Scores series includes works by many well-known 20th century composers, such as Benjamin Britten, Aaron Copland, Bela Bartok, Leonard Bernstein, Igor Stravinsky, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and more. The catalog also features many works by living composers, such as John Adams, Elliott Carter, Peter Maxwell Davies, Steve Reich, and Louis Andriessen.
